Mission Statement Print

The Bishop of Winchester School is a Church of England School where students and staff work together in the knowledge and love of God. We try to act out our faith in our daily lives, with Christ as our example. We see education as an integral part of the Mission of the Church to proclaim all that is good in human living, inspired through the work of God.

We aim to provide our students, within a Christian environment, with a high quality secondary education, which will prepare them for the challenges and opportunities of life ahead. We seek to promote and support the spiritual, moral, social, cultural, intellectual, physical and emotional development of all our students.

For students of the Christian faith the school aims to provide an environment in which that faith may continue to grow. For students who choose not to follow the Christian faith, the school aims to provide a positive experience of Christianity, so that the faith of the Christian Community might be respected and understood.

Equally the school will show respect and act with care towards students from other world faith communities.

Core Values

Our Mission Statement defines our core values, philosophy and aims. The Christian ethos pervades every aspect of life and work within our community promoting academic excellence, equality and diversity and the highest standards of behaviour. Our Philosophy is to seek to:

  • Celebrate and give recognition to the contributions and achievement of our staff and students within the school community.
  • Encourage the quest for knowledge and development of academic, spiritual, vocational and social skills, within a caring well ordered Christian community, which puts into practice core values of respect, love and forgiveness.
  • Provide a broad, balanced and challenging curriculum for the benefit of all our students, which will prepare them for the opportunities and responsibilities of life.
  • Value each student’s individuality and meet the needs of all students as learners.
  • Maintain an active home-school partnership encouraging (with parents), self-discipline, self-motivation and self-esteem amongst our students.
  • Encourage interaction with the wider community; inviting parental, church and local involvement in the life and work of our school.
