The Bishop Of Winchester School - Bournemouth

Dear Parents/Guardians/Carers

Head Teacher Paul McKeownI am very proud to be able to introduce you to the Bishop of Winchester School.  This school has embarked on a very exciting journey over the last year as it strives to become a place of excellence for all, living out our mission statement “Inspire to Achieve”

In September 2010 the school will be re-designated as The Bishop of Winchester Academy.  This will allow us to further develop education that transforms the lives of the children we serve.

The school has been recognised by Ofsted as a good school with some outstanding features.  The Church School Inspectorate has recognised us as an outstanding Church school.

A £25 million re-building project is due to be completed in 2014.

The school is extremely well supported by many Bournemouth Churches and in particular the Diocese of Winchester and the Bishop.  We are privileged to have our own school Chaplain, who is regularly in school to support both young people and staff in developing our Christian Ethos.

Our curriculum model recognises that all students are good at something.  To achieve this we aim to provide all students with an individual Learning Plan that will allow Students, parents, carers and teachers to monitor progress.  This will ensure that all pupils leave The Bishop of Winchester School as confident individuals, well qualified to enjoy happy and fulfilling lives.  I will expect students to have a role in managing their school and welcome the development of a strong Student Voice. I value partnerships with parents above all others.  To guarantee the success of your child we need to work together ensuring that students strive for 100% attendance and arrive at school, fully equipped and in a state of readiness to learn.

I was appointed Head Teacher in April 2006.  Our first challenge was to take the school out of special measures – We are proud of achieving that in record time.  All our efforts are now focused on raising standards.  Our mission is to create a school that becomes the first school of choice for parents in Bournemouth.  I am a traditional Head Teacher who believes in strong leadership and firm discipline.  The school has a highly focused development plan that will ensure the success of your child.  I am a parent myself and would be proud to send my own children to The Bishop of Winchester School.  I very much believe that if the school is not good enough for my children then it is not good enough for anyone’s children.

As the school prepares to open as The Bishop of Winchester Academy I am being extremely well supported by Mrs. Osman who will act as Head Teacher during the next 2 terms.  This will allow me to work closely with students and ensure a smooth transition.

The best way to understand our school is to see us at work.  We hope you will visit us and look forward to meeting you.

I thank you in anticipation of your support and I look forward to working with you in ensuring your child is successful and happy.
